I'm still plugging away on the Farmer's Wife blocks</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(in between several other projects I am working on).</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, it just dawned on me that Christmas is only a few weeks away and I haven't made one single gift this year! OMG, I better get busy but I can't seem to find the time!</div>

I took my camera to the market, but unfortunately I did not take many pictures. I was only there for a few days, and I had an agenda to get completed. It was a very successful market. I'm excited for the new fabrics to arrive and I purchased several different patterns to make and showcase.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was able to meet up with some quilting friends.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tFhiwziaZmk/UnkFNezNz7I/AAAAAAAADtE/X7gnmmZYDlQ/s1600/Quilt+Market.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tFhiwziaZmk/UnkFNezNz7I/AAAAAAAADtE/X7gnmmZYDlQ/s320/Quilt+Market.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Linda and I ran into the International Quilt Market Insta-cam.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sGbRO8WQTVY/UnkFoueb_dI/AAAAAAAADtM/n8aptV5EyGs/s1600/quilt+market+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sGbRO8WQTVY/UnkFoueb_dI/AAAAAAAADtM/n8aptV5EyGs/s320/quilt+market+2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Just prior to catching the shuttle back to the airport, I ran through the quilts on display and took a few photos of some of my favorites.... :-) (Please keep in mind there are probably 100 or more quilts being showcased at the market, and I only had time to view about a quarter of them).</div>

I have been just too dog gone busy lately and my blogging responsibilities reflects my time away from the computer. Although, I have made sure to carry my camera with me at all times, so I won't miss any photo opportunities. I have lots of photos, but I have failed to share them with you.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This last weekend was WSQ's annual quilt show held at the fairgrounds. I was very impressed with the variety of booths, displays, seminars and the overall size of the show. I was even more surprised when I saw several signs banning any photographs. Don't worry, I didn't break any rules. No photos ! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I did make a small purchase. I found some fabric I absolutely loved! It was a RJR Fabric, and I just had to have me a few yards. I didn't know what I was going to make with this fabric, but I just had to have it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4gldNTiKJRM/UmfVPRrmltI/AAAAAAAADsk/uxsW-hebiMM/s1600/pillow+close+up.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4gldNTiKJRM/UmfVPRrmltI/AAAAAAAADsk/uxsW-hebiMM/s320/pillow+close+up.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I didn't waste any time, and whipped up a few throw pillows for the 5th wheel, but loved them so much I'm keeping them in the house in our family room. I do believe I have enough fabric left over to make some more the trailer. </div>

Its only a few shows (true reality) that captures my attention. I don't watch the Kardasian's. I refuse to watch Honey Boo Boo. The Housewives (of various cities) is ridiculous. I'm talking true reality! Here are a few of my all time favorites!!<br />

It only took me <strike>forever</strike> six months to complete this quilt top. I started it while in Montana on a mini-quilting retreat in March, and I worked on it here and there over the next several months. I finished putting the borders on this past weekend. The pattern is called "Arizona Waltz" and I used Moda's Kansas Troubles Pheasant Hill. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zc48YZ4C7mk/Ukz8A7FFDgI/AAAAAAAADrc/DB0CAhEO7lw/s1600/Waltz+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zc48YZ4C7mk/Ukz8A7FFDgI/AAAAAAAADrc/DB0CAhEO7lw/s320/Waltz+3.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: justify;">I think its really pretty, and I know the pattern will really stand out once its quilted. I decided to put together a few quilt kits, and you can pick one up (in the very near future at <a href="http://www.myfabricobsession.com/">www.myfabricobsession.com</a>. </span></div>

FARMER'S WIFE <div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm still plugging away and sewing on my Farmer's Wife quilt blocks. I'm a third of the way done. Its going to be a much longer project then I initially expected, but its going to be beautiful when is complete.</div>

</div>
<br />
Fall is quickly approaching. I thought I better sew a new wall quilt for my front porch. I previously posted <a href="http://karensfabricobsession.blogspot.com/2013/04/calendar-quilts.html">(here)</a> in April about completing Kim Schaefer's Calendar Quilts.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.connectingthreads.com/images/regular/45154.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Kim Schaefer's Calendar Quilts Booklet" border="0" src="http://www.connectingthreads.com/images/regular/45154.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, I just finished a new wall quilt for fall. I'm waiting to hang it up outside, as I want to get new cushions for my rocking chair and appropriately decorate the entire front porch for the change in the season. It's still too early, as my hanging Fuchsia's are still blooming.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s2VEB3JAppw/UjxTmhnX_lI/AAAAAAAADq0/325rqlzmZe0/s1600/Boo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s2VEB3JAppw/UjxTmhnX_lI/AAAAAAAADq0/325rqlzmZe0/s320/Boo+2.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Since this new wall quilt is directed towards Halloween, I better get busy and sew a new calendar quilt for November and December! <br />

Fall! Its just around the corner. We have been breaking heat records here in the Northwest (i.e. it was 98 yesterday). And, over the past few weeks, we've been averaging higher temperatures then normal, BUT, I know Fall is not far away.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've been on line looking at different ways to start decorating the for season change; and I have been dabbling here and there with my sewing machine making things to display at home in the upcoming weeks. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

This is one of the projects I whipped up this past weekend... </div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZEhbCULsH2w/UiAXhPWY5kI/AAAAAAAADoE/BtNcN7sp8WE/s1600/Table+runner+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZEhbCULsH2w/UiAXhPWY5kI/AAAAAAAADoE/BtNcN7sp8WE/s320/Table+runner+(3).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<i><u>Supplies:</u> (for a finished size of 16" x 48")</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>1 1/2 yards burlap, cut to 16" x length of table plus six inches (I made my table runner for my dining room table which measured 16" wide by 48" long).</i><br />
<i>3 1/2 yards white lace</i><br />
<i>2 pkgs (3 yds. each) of 1/2 inch white double folded bias tape</i><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Zigzag stitch, or serge all sides of the burlap runner. This will stop any fraying and unraveling. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q6klCKE3HVU/UiAXp7EPTKI/AAAAAAAADoM/Z90QDhmDwpw/s1600/finishing+edging.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q6klCKE3HVU/UiAXp7EPTKI/AAAAAAAADoM/Z90QDhmDwpw/s320/finishing+edging.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lay the burlap runner on a flat surface. Align lace to one side of the length of the runner. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FAxcYFLMO3g/UiAYBkR3McI/AAAAAAAADoc/aefUMpS1omg/s1600/table+runner+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FAxcYFLMO3g/UiAYBkR3McI/AAAAAAAADoc/aefUMpS1omg/s320/table+runner+(2).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Position the edge of the burlap and lace into the fold of the bias tape, and <b>pin</b> in place. Sew bias tape (with the burlap and lace sandwiched in place) approximately 1/8" from the inside edge of the bias tape. Repeat process for other side (length) of the burlap runner. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Please note that there is no lace placed on either ends of the runner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U6Za4y-Jems/UiAX10z8dpI/AAAAAAAADoU/qpqIbBXKee4/s1600/binding+of+table+runner.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U6Za4y-Jems/UiAX10z8dpI/AAAAAAAADoU/qpqIbBXKee4/s320/binding+of+table+runner.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Trim the lace and bias tape to be flush with the end of the burlap runner. Your done!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MSQiUFdH7mc/UiAYLn5cqiI/AAAAAAAADok/v1Bbt0VPH8o/s1600/Table+Runner.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MSQiUFdH7mc/UiAYLn5cqiI/AAAAAAAADok/v1Bbt0VPH8o/s320/Table+Runner.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Its a simple, quick and cheap table runner perfect for any table top.<br />

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One of my favorite quilt shops is just a short drive from my front door. The Buggy Barn in Reardan, Washington. It's a must see for any quilter. They have a large variety of fabrics, samples and patterns. The Buggy Barn also designs fabric for Henry Glass Fabrics. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Once a year, the Buggy Barn hosts an outdoor quilt show. This year it took place on August 24th & 25th, and I thought I would share a few of my photos from this year's extravaganza. Unfortunately, a big rain storm was in the forecast for Saturday evening, so they limited the amount of quilts on display. I wasn't disappointed, as there was still much to see! </span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">DILL PICKLE RELISH (Makes 12 pints)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">6 cups cucumbers (chopped)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 cups red bell peppers (seeded and chopped)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 cups onions (chopped)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2/3 cup pickling salt</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">6 cups water</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">4 cups cider vinegar</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 cup sugar (optional)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 Tablespoons mustard seeds</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 teaspoon celery seeds</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3 garlic cloves (minced)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 chili peppers (minced) (optional)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1/2 cup chopped fresh dill weed (or 1/3 cup dried dill weed)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Wash and chop (I pulsate mine in small batches in a food processor) the cucumbers, red bell peppers, onions and celery and place a extra large bowl. Add pickling salt and water and let soak 3 hours. Drain and rinse thoroughly with cold water and drain well again (I squeeze out most of the remaining water with my hands).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Bring vinegar, sugar and remaining ingredients to a boil in a large pan, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Add drained, chopped vegetables, and return to a boil. Reduce to simmer and continue (stirring occasionally) until the relish reaches the desired consistency -- about 15-30 minutes (this also depends on how much liquid you personally like in your relish).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ladle into clean pint jars, leaving 1/2 inch head space. Wipe jar lip clean. Close with hot caps (prepared per manufacturer recommendation), and process in boiling water bath for 15 minutes.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Store in cool dry place.</span><br />

</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm still plugging away on a quilt top I started earlier this year. I've finished 34 blocks, and I have been contemplating on whether or not to make it bigger. The pattern I am following is for a lap quilt. However, one of the outer borders is made entirely out of flying geese. There are all sewn and ready to assemble. If I make the quilt top bigger, I am going to have to make MORE flying geese. I am NOT excited about making more flying geese. Here is a sneak peek...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aHaBS_Knbns/UhS9mzyA9MI/AAAAAAAADls/YLv0e516Z24/s1600/0812131345.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aHaBS_Knbns/UhS9mzyA9MI/AAAAAAAADls/YLv0e516Z24/s320/0812131345.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I've lost my interest on working on this quilt top several times; and recently, I have thrown it aside and ventured into some smaller side projects.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With fall just around the corner, I have cut out and hand appliqueing a pumpkin table mat. I've been working on this project while sitting on the couch watch television. (Sorry for the poor picture quality...I need to stop taking pictures with my phone).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9ABWCAwCQPA/UhNv2dfD0gI/AAAAAAAADlQ/tW6nLRZxyDQ/s1600/Pumpkin.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9ABWCAwCQPA/UhNv2dfD0gI/AAAAAAAADlQ/tW6nLRZxyDQ/s320/Pumpkin.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Recently, while wasting valuable time searching Pinterest (which I absolutely love!!), I stumbled across a rustic (but pretty) table runner that I thought was really cute. Of course, I pinned it and posted a "Like" on Facebook, for which my sister commented "<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: #fafbfb; line-height: 11.199999809265137px;">This is cute, you can make me one, thankyouverymuch!"</span> Why not, I asked myself. Sew, I made my sister one, myself one, and I am making each of my children one. What do you think?</span></div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<img height="256" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--cxC5TtyuHc/Ugcd7DmnecI/AAAAAAAAeN0/czcBqIOrJBQ/w802-h642-no/020+copy.jpg" width="320" /></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This past weekend, my little cousin Colleen got married to her best friend, Ian. It was a beautiful outdoor vintage wedding. I loved witnessing this joyous event, and I got to spend time with family who I haven't seen in years. The wedding was held in northwestern Washington, and it is normally a six hour drive across the state (without hitting any of that retched Seattle traffic).</span></span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, while on the west side, I decided to take advantage of stopping at a few quilt shops.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">FIRST STOP: <span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;">A</span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;">unt Mary's Quilt Shop in</span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"> Smokey Point, WA.</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XM6uOb2NGA8/UgzXcKi1YEI/AAAAAAAADjI/K8QJoOfXbVM/s1600/Aunt+Marys+Quilts.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XM6uOb2NGA8/UgzXcKi1YEI/AAAAAAAADjI/K8QJoOfXbVM/s320/Aunt+Marys+Quilts.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I arrived here shortly after they opened. This is a really cute shop with lots of fabric choices, great displays, lots of quilt samples, and a large open class room. The owner was extremely friendly, and helpful. When I told her I was on my own mini-shop hop, she drug out a map and directed me to other neighboring shops that were open on a Sunday.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UN2r2DBKhIY/UgzXkNEylmI/AAAAAAAADjQ/Nt29QGdwsoM/s1600/Inside+Aunt+Marys.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UN2r2DBKhIY/UgzXkNEylmI/AAAAAAAADjQ/Nt29QGdwsoM/s320/Inside+Aunt+Marys.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">NEXT STOP: The Quiltmaker's Shoppe in Arlington, WA.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V4Yz0LUqRSk/UgzXtAZdYtI/AAAAAAAADjY/OIf2K5T1mH0/s1600/Quiltmaker+sign.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V4Yz0LUqRSk/UgzXtAZdYtI/AAAAAAAADjY/OIf2K5T1mH0/s320/Quiltmaker+sign.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A quaint shop divided by several themed related rooms. At the entrance (besides the cash register and cutting table) you will find all their notions, embroidery kits, and the newest arrival of fabric. Through a doorway to the right, you will find the holiday themed fabric, racks of quilt books, an array of solid fabrics, and pre-cuts. In a small middle section of the shop, you would find a large selection of batiks (which I believe is their specialty). There were two back rooms. One room was devoted to novelty and children fabrics, and the very last room was devoted to their classroom. The shop was alive with anxious customers purchasing their newest block-of-the-month. It was a fun place to visit.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mLyXckl49ZM/UgzX1Fb7ZfI/AAAAAAAADjg/HrrLS29yluI/s1600/Quiltmaker+shop.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mLyXckl49ZM/UgzX1Fb7ZfI/AAAAAAAADjg/HrrLS29yluI/s320/Quiltmaker+shop.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">LAST STOP: Keepsake Cottage Fabrics in Bothell, WA. I drove into the little village shopping area, and was pleased I choose this shop as my last stop. This place was absolutely adorable and inviting. Outside was all their sale fabric, and a sitting area to rest your tired feet (or patient men waiting on their female companions). Inside the shop were rows and rows of fabric --- almost overwhelming. The bolts of fabric were divided by designers and color themes. My brain was in overdrive that I forgot to take a picture of the inside of the store.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img height="240" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/1102463_10201675156149794_1939586503_o.jpg" width="320" /></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I spent at least a hour browsing the shelves and stacks of fabric bolts trying to find that "perfect" fabric. I took some time to look at most of their quilting books in hopes of finding a new project. In the end, I only purchased a few yards of Moda's Glamping fabric (as I loved the line when I first saw it at Market).</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ucD4i9sblB0/UgzYAedFl5I/AAAAAAAADjo/1JN7thx1Uec/s1600/Chickens.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ucD4i9sblB0/UgzYAedFl5I/AAAAAAAADjo/1JN7thx1Uec/s320/Chickens.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

Like I said in my previous post, I found a little motivation to sew in this heat. I've been spending a few hours lately sitting down behind my sewing machine and tackling on some unfinished projects (a.k.a. work-in progress).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NYuBAnTMu-w/UgTwC-PqaeI/AAAAAAAADiw/Tp0IfK3SI8M/s1600/Blocks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NYuBAnTMu-w/UgTwC-PqaeI/AAAAAAAADiw/Tp0IfK3SI8M/s320/Blocks.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zaXfckVQzZo/UgTwNBGtPSI/AAAAAAAADi4/4yPdu6ZhvFw/s1600/Completed+blocks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zaXfckVQzZo/UgTwNBGtPSI/AAAAAAAADi4/4yPdu6ZhvFw/s320/Completed+blocks.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I started this particular quilt earlier this year when I went (with my cousin) on our own personal mini "Quilt Retreat" in Montana (see <a href="http://karensfabricobsession.blogspot.com/2013/04/quilting-bee-work-in-progress.html">Quilting Bee</a>). I need 42 9" blocks, and there are two different block patterns. I finished sewing 21 (of course, the easiest pattern) blocks, and I am half way completed with the (complicated) other blocks and laying them out in rows as I go. My goal is to sew a little here and a little there until I get this quilt top completed.</div>

As a way to pass time while on our long flight over seas (this past May), I purchased a few paperbacks to read. One of the books I bought was called "The Quilter's Apprentice" by Jennifer Chiaverini.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QCoRH4cGlGc/UgJNWtq4zaI/AAAAAAAADig/h8p2Htphtxw/s1600/Quilting+book.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QCoRH4cGlGc/UgJNWtq4zaI/AAAAAAAADig/h8p2Htphtxw/s320/Quilting+book.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was a quick and easy read. I loved learning the history of certain quilt blocks. I was intrigued to learn the author is also a designer (and has her own fabric line) for Red Rooster Fabrics and has written several series of novels revolving around quilting. When I finished the book, it gave me a little inspiration to sew again. (Yes, I've been putting some hours on my sewing machine again. I just haven't share my work-in progress yet.) </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll look forward to reading more in the Elm Creek Quilt novels in the future.</div>

I'm skipping around a little bit on our European vacation, but I wanted to share with you a little sewing project that I tackled (and was not planned) while in Germany with our daughter.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Our first night in Germany was very cold. I kept requesting additional blankets when making up our bed. I was happy to see Kristina brought out the T-Shirt quilt I had made for her a few years back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dInqrD4CUJY/Tvnc2mEyB5I/AAAAAAAAA0E/X08RrAdCunM/s1600/11-15-2011+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dInqrD4CUJY/Tvnc2mEyB5I/AAAAAAAAA0E/X08RrAdCunM/s320/11-15-2011+007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I gave the quilt a quick once-over and was pleased to note it was being used and still in very good condition. I'm sure Kristina was rolling her eyes when she watched me inspect some corners, and edges, but I wanted to make sure stitches were not loose.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since it was very COLD that evening, I requested another blanket to throw onto the bed. Kristina immediately retrieved a blanket from the bedroom, and she had it folded up under her arms. I noticed it was a old, faded quilt. As she unfolded it and placed it on top of the bed, she mentioned that the quilt was Cody's, and he's had it since he was very little. Cody then proceeded to tell me that his grandmother made him and each of his brother's a quilt and his was the only one that (he believed) still existed. I noticed the quilt was machine pieced and quilted, and it was in need of some tender loving care. The binding had come undone around a majority of the quilt. There were numerous holes in the quilt top where the stitches had broken away from the quilt pieces, and the machine quilting was almost non-existent. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I immediately grabbed my sewing bag (which I take on all my trips), and began mending.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-651ixoaGrbM/UfkW6jrBMzI/AAAAAAAADiE/YeAunyGgvk8/s1600/European+Vacation++5-2013+534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-651ixoaGrbM/UfkW6jrBMzI/AAAAAAAADiE/YeAunyGgvk8/s320/European+Vacation++5-2013+534.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The day before we left to head back home, I had fixed the entire quilt binding, and sewn all the loose quilt pieces. It should last several more years for Cody to enjoy and to continue to remind him of his grandmother. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4TYac0ykzQA/UfkYFmb0oWI/AAAAAAAADiQ/WWSyzBQUMCo/s1600/European+Vacation++5-2013+535.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4TYac0ykzQA/UfkYFmb0oWI/AAAAAAAADiQ/WWSyzBQUMCo/s320/European+Vacation++5-2013+535.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I write this post, I realize that I did not ask Cody about the history of this quilt. I am sure it has a wonderful story to go along with this wonderful heirloom.</div>

I just was not in the mood to explore. The weather was cold and damp and my husband stay in board as he wasn't feeling his best. I was able to see some of the sights. <br />

The best thing about my time in France was my breakfast: quiche and crepes! I have to say the food was impressive.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Five more quilt squares completed! 33 out of 111</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Initially, I was sewing the blocks in chronological order out of the book (i.e. I have sewn blocks 1-30, 56, 92, and 103), but I soon realized I might have a problem when I began laying out the blocks according to the suggested quilt top pattern.</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CkWnjayUBC0/UfIJzUatknI/AAAAAAAADhE/OAS2dR9BP_M/s1600/sampler.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CkWnjayUBC0/UfIJzUatknI/AAAAAAAADhE/OAS2dR9BP_M/s320/sampler.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: xx-small;">(Sample block layout in the Farmer's Wife Sample Quilt Book by Laurie Hird)</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did not want to take the chance of having blocks sewn together and then realizing I had used the same fabric. This quilt top needs variety of blocks and contrasting color combinations. Now, I am following the layout pattern and sewing blocks by (diagonal) rows.</div>
